Behind the Walls Talk

A blog giving insight to the hearts and minds of those behind the prison walls.

Owen’s Testimony

My name is Owen Dean Alspaugh Jr. I was recently released after serving a 7-year prison sentence, and I would like to address the transition back into society. Everything is new!

Freedom, the thing I’ve been preparing for over the last seven years. All things hitting at one time, deep breaths, and refocusing on what is important. Temptations arising, old friends calling, easy opportunities to make money are all surrounding me. Having to slow down and seeing it as the universe testing me. Distractions trying to pull me off the path. All the plans I’ve created and the things I have wanted and needed to do can now be moved on. Consistent legal money making, health insurance, drivers license, car, car insurance, bank account, and credit building. Now a days you can’t just have a drivers license, you need car insurance and a car to be able to get it. Creating an LLC, getting the EIN, all these things I want done but they all take time and money. I’ve never had any of these things beforens0 my time frame was off, but it is all a learning experience. Women (temptation) they are calling me, and I am calling them. That lower body trying to get active. The higher state is that I do want a woman’s presence, that strong feminine goddess, that I can talk with and hold. All that comes in time though. Keeping the mind focused on the goals at hand. The goal achieved, next goal achieved, next goal achieved then everything else follows. Working to slow down and not rush, have patience. Good things take time. Being aware when socializing with individuals, working to calm that prison mentality but not too much just a little bit. Don’t get comfortable! Starting with nothing and knowing it cannot all be gotten in one day. Removing that old street mentality of right now and working consistently knowing it will come when you stay focused and on track. Find the necessities like food, clothing, shelter, and a job for individuals coming home can be found by your local area for resources like this. I was blessed with food, clothes, and shelter temporarily. But there are resources that can help with those things. If you have some who has just came home from the Raleigh, NC, that is the area that you will search for places to help. My personal motto is A.M. NO TIME WASTED, meaning that I wake up early and make good use of my day and time.
