Hello everyone, my name is Frankie, I have a fiancé who is a current resident at Southern Correctional in Troy. With this email I am hoping that by the end of it each of you reading this will have gained awareness of the problem, have a like mind to want to help rectify the situation in a timely manner and professional manner, to come together and to create change that is needed and might I add wanted between staff, men and women housed by the NCDAC, as well as the families and friends of these individuals. This email may be a long one. I hope to help deliver the message in a clear and concise manner. Sargent Martin is the topic for this email and using GTL services. Attached are pictures to back up what I am speaking on here today. May 18th and 19th I sent two messages to William McCallum 0953830, one was about how much I appreciate him and was very loving, the other message was a silly question “Bae am I a sunrise or sunset”. Both of which were denied for inappropriateness. Now I know that there are certain words, phrases, and pictures that are not allowed. We tend to follow the proper guidelines. If you look at the picture that is attached to this email and ask yourself one question, please What is so inappropriate about these messages? See this is not our first time being here at Southern Correctional, in fact back in 2022 we went through a lot more harassment with sending our mail. Those pictures are also attached. There was even a grievance process to help resolve this matter. Prior to the grievance and having to contact Martin I had sent a book for us to read together titled All About Love by Bell Hook, a very good book at that. Well Amazon notified me that this book had been delivered, a week or so went by he (William) had not received the book. I called the mailroom and gave a description of this book; the book is red and cannot be missed. They informed me that they had not seen the book. So here I am thinking, oh, it must have been delivered elsewhere or stolen. That led me to Amazon customer service and the book was shipped again, once it was delivered William got it the next day. Come to find out Marin had his book the whole time. Obviously going out of her way to get his mail since the mailroom staff did not even have it checked in or processed yet. That picture is also attached to the free copy receipt. Still, that was not enough, SRG Martin, then gives him a write up with claims alleging a confidential informant said William was trying to introduce drugs into the facility. Also attached is that it was thrown out for lack of evidence. Playing with the mail is also a federal offense. Aren’t the “criminals” the ones serving time and not hired to serve and protect? She is playing with his life, the one that she is assigned to protect. This is his well-being at stake here and she is now attempting to trump up charges on him. Her dislike for an” inmate” as they call them so very often, has led her to do these horrific things. Abuse of power? Power tripping? Personal feelings? What would make someone in leadership go to these extreme measures? That is when the grievance was filed after seeing DHO. Because we must Protect him from her. The person who is paid to protect him. It is also attached as well. During all this William went into a state of depression. All he wanted to do is his time. After all those antics Martin and the staff put him in a car and drove him to Richmond CI. Now we are back there again, and the antics are starting already. So, before this goes too far, and she does the unthinkable again we need your help. Her professionalism has gone away. The mission statement no longer matters to her, she has her own agenda, and it is an ugly one. In 2022 there were 16-20 men who were transferred into Southern including William, many of them fell victim to these allegations and petty tactics that Martin was doing. Provoking them, picking and targeting these men. William did not give her what she wanted so the only thing she could do now was move him. Back to this recent occurrence, I did try to speak with Martin, she stated she was not at her computer to call back, well I did and was told she was no longer in the building. This led me to send this email. My call to action in a way. I am truly worried about his safety and the games that are being played. The lengths Martin might go to just because she feels a way is scary. I want to add this, back in 2022 I made a phone call to this facility to attempt to gain understanding of what all was taking place. The conversation started out pleasant with a male SRG officer who had me on speaker phone, once this officer asked on whose behalf am I calling on and I said William’s name the anger in this woman’s voice that spoke up, at the time me not knowing it is Martin speaking was yelling telling me I need to shut up and listen multiple times while asking who is this speaking right now and she gave her name. There was never any resolve that took place that day either. Once she heard his name, she could not even hold her composure. It was like a rabid animal on attack with fangs going for blood. With Martin deeming these messages as inappropriate is she saying that he is not worthy of love? But that is not in the job description to have that authority. GTL is a way that those out here in society can communicate with those who are incarcerated. We pay to use these services. The messaging app gives us 150 characters to use for 0.25 cents a message. At this point we cannot even say I love you without it pending for days at a time. On both ends we are unable to utilize the services that we are paying for in its full capacity. Not only us but I have heard others are being subjected to this as well, some stopped using it. Especially messages as simple as good morning, good night, I love you, and other ones that are in guidelines to the facility. All of this is in the attachments. I am going to close out this email with hopes that one of you or even all of you see that there is a huge issue here, that you have understanding of everything mentioned, and have the compassion to change this. Playing with people livelihood is not the way to do the job assigned. William is not just an “inmate” to me and our family he is a father, my future husband, a son, a brother, uncle, a friend, and so much more. His life and well-being matter to us. There is so much more to him than what the computer screen shows or the preconceived image that is created about him being level three SRG. The boy that entered the prison at a very young age is not the man he is today. The growth, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding he has gained over these years has been monumental. The goals and objectives that he has placed upon his life and want to achieve is the true meaning of rehabilitation. If the problem is that he is level three, that still is not a reason to harass or target anyone for a label that was given to him years ago. Thank you for your time.

I urge you to review the policies and procedures for SRG people at all the North Carolina Prisons regarding communication privileges, as well as the allocation of educational and work opportunities, to ensure that all eligible individuals, including SRG 3 are provided with equitable access to these programs. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment within the prison system and prioritizing rehabilitation, we can empower these men to make positive changes in their lives and contribute to their successful reintegration into society.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I trust that you will take the necessary steps to address the concerns raised and ensure that they are afforded the opportunities they need to thrive during their incarceration and beyond.

Some of the denied mail by SRG Martin in the pictures below. We have to keep a papertrail of everything that goes on with him and the staff at these prisons. When harassment and being targeted keeps happening, we have to protect ourselves. And suggest that everyone do the same. Lives are not to be played with like this. Speak up for Loved Ones.
