Why do I believe I deserve a second chance. My name is Christopher Gordon I am 56 years of age. I have been incarcerated for 25 years since March 22nd, 1999. For three consecutive habitual felony cases, number one being felonious fleeing to elude arrest no one got injured sentence only carries 25 to 30 months but with the habitual felon status added I received 210 to 261 months. The second case is possession of firearm by felon no one got injured sentence only carried 17 to 22 months but with the habitual felon status added I received 168 to 211 months running consecutive to sentence number one above. The third case is assault with deadly weapon inflicting serious injury someone was shot the sentence only carried 50 to 63 months but with habitual status added I received 135 to 171 months consecutive sentence to two above.

I was vindictively and unjustly prosecuted and sentenced excessively and illegally. When on the outside looking in you would think North Carolina prison system practices justice and rehabilitation according to their mission statement especially where they claimed to treat all with fairness and justice. Which is a way to trick taxpayers into voting on bills which has no fairness or justice causing an overflow of excessive this disproportionate and unjust sentences. In North Carolina prison system there are at least three phases of custody levels close, medium, and minimum rehabilitation by their policies and assessments to transition a prisoner through these levels Unfortunately these policies and assessments are not adhered to. When looking at NCDAC policies their mission statement is to promote public safety by the administration of a fair and humane system which provides reasonable opportunities for the adjudicated offenders to develop progressively responsible behavior. It all sounds interesting especially to those on the outside looking in because they don’t know what goes on behind these prison gates where laws, policy, and rights are violated daily by supposedly trained staff. Which is every reason for those of you who have a loved one behind the gate to become a team player of www.behindthewallstalk.com and advocate for freedom through the equality of parole. You have in this system now offenders serving sentences for extremely heinous crimes with life sentences who are allowed to transition to minimum custody and be given an opportunity for freedom however offenders with the same hanging with crimes that was sentenced after October 1st, 1994, are serving more than what an actual life sentence must serve before 1994. Hanging with and violent crimes are eligible for parole after serving 20-year sentences absolutely no justice or equality. Advocation for change, better living conditions, schooling, change to minimum custody policies, and again equality for parole for their entire system. When viewing NCDACC vision statement claiming to be an organization providing public safety opportunities for offenders to become productive citizens and contributing to the creation in society of law-abiding responsible citizens. You will find that NCDAC’s advertisements are false, rehabilitation is created by transitioning through the system under NCDAC’s code of ethics which obligates them to prepare an offender for society. However, due to NCDAC custody level transitioning policy unless an offender has a short sentence he or she is stagnated for many years until they become within five years of a release date which deters and clouds offender’s mental state because it appears as if there’s no hope. And in minimum custody there’s offenders who have heinous crimes that was sentence before October 1st, 1994, some with life and some with many years the point here is to show that they are being given opportunities to prepare for society through work release and college programs. Offenders sentence after 1994 such as myself who has utilized rehabilitation measures are being treated unfair and inhumane with lack of protection of the law and deny opportunity to transition to the lowest custody levels which is earned through behavior. Thank you sincerely for reading my story, Christopher Gordon.
