Juvenile Justice; Broken System

Juvenile Justice; Broken System

This is Behind the Walls Talk with the founder, William McCallum and I am here to report to you about the NC Juvenile Justice system facing challenges and officials say change needs to come and I agree. “We have about twice the number of kids in the juvenile detention centers that we had just four years ago.” William Lassiter, the Deputy Secretary for the Department of Public Safety’s Juvenile Justice Division, said. “And juveniles make up about 40 percent of cases in adult court.” They keep talking about raise the age and staff shortages. It starts from communities, social groups, home life, mental health, but most importantly, changing these laws where the guy that has been incarcerated for 20 plus years can go home and be the leaders that they are for their communities. The youth don’t have any guidance out there, nobody that they can look up to and respect that’s been through the same struggles that they’re experiencing right now. They have no fathers in their lives and they’re listening to rappers such as Pooh Sheisty, 21Savage, Lil Durk etc. allowing them to be their influences and all they are rapping about is selling drugs and homicides, The answer is behind the walls, but the heads of state has to stop judging us for the crimes we committed decades ago and start looking at the changes and the impact we can make in our communities now for a better future. The power is in the people of our communities, help us to help you save our children, so we can save our communities. Sign the petition
